GATES, ARCHWAYS &
AUTOMATIC ENTRY
GATES & ENTRY SYSTEMS
EVERY ENTRY TELLS YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROPERTY
A gate is often the first thing someone sees when they pull up to your property, and the last thing standing between your land and anyone who shouldn’t be on it. All Aspects Fencing builds and installs gates for ranches, residential driveways, commercial facilities, and everything in between. From a simple pipe swing gate on a back pasture to a custom timber archway with an automated operator at the front of an acreage property, we handle the full range.
Most of our gate work in Central Oregon falls into four categories: driveway and entry gates, automated entry systems, archways and entrance structures, and commercial security gates. They’re related services, and on many projects, more than one is part of the same job. We’ll design the entry that fits the property, the fence system, and the budget, and build it to last in this climate.
Gate posts are the critical variable. A well-built gate hung on undersized or poorly set posts will sag, bind, and fail far ahead of its time. Every gate post we set goes in at the correct depth for the swing weight and frost conditions, in concrete sized for the post diameter and the load it will carry. The gate hangs true the day we leave, and it stays that way.
DRIVEWAYS & ENTRY GATES
BUILT FOR DAILY USE AND BUILT TO LAST
Whether it’s a straightforward ranch swing gate or a decorative double drive gate at a residential property, the same principles apply: correct post sizing, correct post depth, correct hardware for the swing weight. We build entry gates from steel tubing, pipe, and wood, in configurations from single swing to double drive, and we size and hang them right the first time.

ARCHWAYS & ENTRY STRUCTURES
THE STATEMENT YOUR PROPERTY DESERVES
An archway transforms a driveway entrance from functional to memorable. All Aspects Fencing builds entry archways in timber, steel pipe, and square tube, from rustic peeled-log structures to clean modern steel frames and custom timber-and-stone ranch entries. Most archways are built in combination with a gate and fence system, but standalone entry structures are a project we take on as well.
AUTOMATIC ENTRY
THE CONVENIENCE OF
NOT GETTING OUT OF YOUR TRUCK
Automatic gate operators are one of the most practical upgrades for any property with a driveway gate. All Aspects Fencing installs swing and slide gate operators for residential and commercial properties throughout Central Oregon, along with the access hardware — keypads, remotes, intercoms, and fire department Knox switches — that make them actually useful.
REMOTE & KEYPAD ACCESS
Vehicle remotes, coded keypads, and smartphone-compatible systems give you control over who enters and when, without leaving your seat.
SWING & SLIDE OPERATORS
Swing operators work on most residential and ranch gates. Slide operators are used on larger commercial openings or where slope prevents a swing gate from working correctly.
FIRE DEPARTMENT KNOX SWITCHES
Required by many Central Oregon fire districts on automatic gates serving occupied properties. We install Knox switches as part of any automated entry installation when required.
SOLAR POWER AVAILABLE
For properties without power at the gate location, solar-powered operators are a clean and reliable solution. No trenching required.
SECURITY GATES
COMMERCIAL-GRADE ACCESS CONTROL
Security gates for commercial and industrial applications are built to a different standard than a residential driveway gate. Heavier tube framing, larger post footings, slide configurations for wide openings, and integration with chain-link or ornamental security fence systems. All Aspects Fencing installs commercial security gates for equipment yards, facilities, and any application where controlling access is the primary goal.

COMMON QUESTIONS
GATES & ENTRY FAQS
A swing gate pivots open on hinges, like a door. A slide gate rolls sideways along a track parallel to the fence line. Swing gates are more common for residential and ranch applications as they’re simpler to build and maintain. Slide gates are preferred for wide commercial openings, or anywhere there isn’t enough clearance behind the gate for it to swing open fully. Slope is the other factor: a significant grade change across the driveway opening can make a swing gate impractical or require it to be built with extra clearance.
Permit requirements for automatic gates vary by county and zone. In Deschutes County, residential automatic gates generally don’t require a building permit, but commercial installations may. The more common requirement is a fire department access provision. Many Central Oregon fire districts require that automatic gates serving occupied properties have a Knox switch or equivalent key-switch override so emergency vehicles can enter. We’re familiar with local requirements and will advise you on what applies to your specific installation.
Single swing gates are typically practical up to about 16 feet. Beyond that, the weight and flex in a long gate panel become problems. Hinges wear faster and the gate starts to sag at the latch end. For wider openings, a double drive gate (two panels meeting in the middle) is the standard solution and works well up to 20–24 feet. For very wide commercial openings, a slide gate or a cantilever gate is the right approach. Let us know the opening width and what you need to get through it, and we’ll recommend the right configuration.
It depends on the aesthetic you want and how long you want it to last. Timber archways, built from heavy beams with decorative hardware, have a classic ranch look and can incorporate stone pillars for a more formal entry. They require periodic sealing or staining to hold up against UV and moisture. Steel pipe and square tube archways are lower maintenance and can range from utilitarian to architectural depending on the design. Peeled log archways have a rustic, natural look but require good log selection and treatment to resist the elements. We can build any of these and will talk through the tradeoffs during the estimate.
Yes, solar-powered gate operators are a reliable solution for properties where running power to the gate location would require trenching or isn’t practical. Most residential and light commercial automatic gate operators are available in solar configurations. The operator runs from a battery charged by a small solar panel. Performance is strong in Central Oregon’s high-desert climate, which gets excellent sun exposure. Battery backup is included, so the gate continues to operate through cloudy periods.
Sometimes. It depends on how the existing gate was built and hung. If the gate is sagging, binding, or the posts are starting to lean, adding a gate operator will accelerate those problems rather than solve them. The operator will wear out faster and the automation will be unreliable. In those cases, it’s more cost-effective to rebuild the gate and posts correctly and add the operator at the same time. If the existing gate is well-built and hanging true, retrofitting an operator is straightforward. We’ll look at what you have and give you an honest assessment.
