PRIVACY FENCE AND CEDAR FENCING
CUSTOM PRIVACY FENCE BUILT TO LAST IN CENTRAL OREGON
A well-built privacy fence does more than block a view. It defines your outdoor space, reduces road and neighbor noise, keeps kids and pets safely in the yard, and adds genuine curb appeal to your property. All Aspects Fencing installs cedar privacy fence for residential and commercial properties throughout Bend, Redmond, Sisters, and the surrounding Central Oregon region.
Cedar is the right material choice for this climate. It is naturally rot-resistant and handles the dry summers and cold winters of the high desert better than many softwood alternatives. We use western red cedar as our primary material, and we build with steel Postmaster posts as our standard installation method – a choice that matters more than most homeowners realize when it comes to long-term fence performance.
Whether you want a clean and modern horizontal fence, or a traditional dog-ear or picture-frame style, we can design and build it. We work closely with each client to make sure the style, height, and gate placement fit the property and the way it is actually used.
CEDAR FENCE STYLES
FOUR STYLES, ONE CREW
All four cedar privacy styles can be built to your preferred height, with custom gate placement and optional finishing details. Not sure which style fits your property? We will walk you through it during the estimate.
HORIZONTAL CEDAR FENCE
MODERN / CONTEMPORARY
Horizontal fence is the most popular style we install today. Boards run left to right instead of vertically, giving the fence a clean, modern look that complements contemporary home styles, landscaping, and hardscape. The result feels intentional and designed rather than just functional.
Horizontal fence requires a rigid post system to perform well. The boards can act like a sail in wind if the posts flex. This is one of the reasons we spec steel Postmaster posts as standard for this style. Done right, it is a fence that holds its line and its look for years.
PICTURE FRAME FENCE
FINISHED / POLISHED LOOK
Picture frame fence adds a border around each fence panel, typically a wider board on the top, bottom, and sides, creating a framed appearance that gives the fence a more architectural, finished look. It reads as higher quality at a glance and holds up well over time because the frame protects the edges of the field boards.
This style works well for front-yard installations where the fence is highly visible, and for commercial or mixed-use properties where appearance is part of the branding. It pairs naturally with both vertical and horizontal board orientations.
DOG-EAR FENCE
TRADITIONAL / CLASSIC
Dog-ear fence is the traditional vertical cedar privacy fence, named for the clipped corners on each board. It is a proven, time-tested design that has been used in Oregon neighborhoods for decades. When built with quality cedar and set properly, it holds up well and provides solid privacy without being flashy about it.
It is a cost-effective option for backyard enclosures, side yards, and anywhere that a clean, functional fence is the goal. We build it with the same material and post quality we put into every other style, because the basics of a good fence are the same regardless of the board profile.

HOW WE BUILD IT
STEEL POSTMASTER POSTS AS STANDARD
Most privacy fence companies set wood posts in concrete. We use steel Postmaster posts instead, and it is one of the most important decisions we make on a privacy fence project. Wood posts set in concrete hold moisture against the wood, which is the leading cause of post rot and premature fence failure. A wood post in concrete in a Central Oregon yard that gets irrigation or snowmelt contact will often fail in 8 to 12 years. Postmaster posts are steel, set in concrete, and the cedar rail attaches to the steel – keeping wood out of the ground.
- Steel post eliminates ground-contact rot — the primary failure point of wood privacy fence
- Cedar rails and boards attach to the steel post, not buried in dirt or concrete
- Fence boards can be removed and replaced without disturbing the post system
- Significantly longer post lifespan compared to wood-in-concrete
- Standard approach on all our cedar privacy fence installations

COMMON QUESTIONS
PRIVACY FENCE FAQS
Wood posts set in concrete trap moisture against the wood at the ground line, which is the most common cause of privacy fence failure. The post rots from the inside out and the fence begins to lean, often within 10 to 15 years. Steel Postmaster posts eliminate that failure point. The steel is set in concrete and the cedar attaches to the steel above grade, keeping wood out of contact with soil and moisture. It costs a bit more upfront but the fence will outlast a wood-post installation by a significant margin.
In Bend and most Deschutes County jurisdictions, residential fences in rear and side yards can typically be up to 6 feet tall without a permit. Front yard fences are usually limited to 3 to 4 feet depending on your zone and proximity to intersections. Regulations vary by neighborhood and subdivision, and some HOAs have their own rules. We will flag any height or setback issues during the estimate walkthrough so there are no surprises.
Cedar does not require stain or sealer to perform. It is naturally rot-resistant and will weather to a silver-gray over time without treatment. That said, applying a quality penetrating oil stain or sealer every few years will preserve the warm wood color if you prefer that look, and it adds a layer of protection from UV and moisture. We recommend waiting 6 to 12 months after installation before applying any stain to allow the cedar to dry out fully and accept the finish evenly.
Horizontal cedar fence has become the most requested style over the last several years, particularly in newer Bend neighborhoods. It has a clean, intentional look that works well with modern home design. Dog-ear remains popular for traditional neighborhoods and rental properties. Picture frame tends to be chosen for higher-visibility applications like front yards and commercial screening. All three styles are good choices. It really comes down to the look you want and what fits the context of your property.
Yes. All of our privacy fence installations include the option for matching cedar gates in any of the four styles. We build walk gates and drive gates with properly braced frames and quality hardware – heavy-duty hinges, cane bolt latches, and drop rods on double gates. A gate that is not properly framed will sag and drag within a couple of years; we build them to swing true and hold their alignment.
Pricing depends on the style, height, linear footage, site conditions, and gate count. Horizontal fence is generally the most labor-intensive and runs a bit higher than traditional vertical styles. The steel Postmaster post system adds cost over wood posts but is well worth it for the extended lifespan. The best way to get an accurate number is a free on-site estimate. We will walk the property, discuss options, and give you a detailed quote. Contact us to schedule.
Most residential privacy fence installations in Deschutes County do not require a building permit as long as the fence meets height limits and setback requirements. Some cities within the county, and some HOAs, may have additional requirements. We will review the specifics for your property during the estimate and let you know if anything needs to be addressed before we start work.
